A Month of Sundays - Part III

Wow Cloë! I cannot believe that every single Sunday in June has been an important feast day (not that every Sunday is not important!) What have we got coming up this Sunday?

It is the feast day of two of our greatest saints!

Let me guess! I bet Peter is one of them!

That's right.

And maybe Paul?!

Very good Tallulah, I'm glad to see that you are remembering so many of the things that you have been learning.

So why do we celebrate them on the same day if they are both so important?

That is because between Peter and Paul they were responsible for founding the Catholic Church in Rome, what we call the Latin Church.

Peter was one of Jesus' disciples. He was a fisherman. He denied Jesus three times the night they arrested Jesus, but then he became the "rock upon which Jesus built the church.

Paul was one of the great persecutors of the church. He did terrible things to the followers of Jesus. But one day, Jesus decided he had had enough, and He wanted Paul to use all that energy to spread Jesus' message.

I guess that means that Jesus can work with anybody if we just let Him, right?!

Here are short videos to tell you more about these two great men.

On Sunday many of our priests will be changing parishes. Our priest, Fr. Jerome, is moving down the street to St. Columban. Fr. Kevin will be coming to our parish.

Have we ever met Fr. Kevin before Cloë? Did he like us?

I do believe we have Tallulah, and I'm sure he will be very happy to know that we go to his parish.

Bye Fr. Jerome! Woof! Woof! Welcome Fr. Kevin! Woof!

A Month of Sundays - Part II

Today we continue with our month of Sunday mini-series. This past Sunday the Church celebrated Corpus Christi.

What does that mean Cloë? It sounds like another language.

Very good Tallulah. Corpus Christi is Latin, an ancient language that they spoke in Rome during the time of Jesus. It is not really spoken anywhere these days. Corpus Christi literally mean Body of Christ.

On this particular Sunday we once again remind ourselves that Jesus is really present in the bread and the wine. Sometimes after this particular Mass the people will have a procession of the Blessed Sacrament, generally displayed in a monstrance.

What is a procession Cloë?

It's kind of like a parade. Jesus in the bread is at the front of the procession and all the people follow. It's a way of showing people what we believe in.

And what about a monstrance?

That is the special holder that they put the bread in.

Here is the procession that happened in Rome on the weekend.

And here is a craft idea from Catholic Inspired to help you remember that when you receive communion you are actually receiving Jesus in your hand!

That is totally awesome Cloë!

It sure is.

Finally here are two videos of us at the cottage this weekend. There were tons of mosquitoes but we had fun, especially at the beach.

A Month of Sundays - Part I

So far in June we have had 3 special Sundays. Do you know what they are Tallulah?

Well there was the Sunday that Jesus went up to Heaven, I think that was called the Ascension.

Two Sundays ago was Pentecost. I can remember the big name but not what happened Cloë.

Pentecost is when we remember God sending the Holy Spirit to the apostles to help them spread the Good News about Jesus.

 (youtube link: http://youtu.be/xtokHQOmFu0)

Oh now I remember. In fact God is still sending the Holy Spirit to people today, especially through baptism and confirmation.

I know this past Sunday had something to do with the Holy Spirit and God and Jesus, but I can't remember what it was called.

Last Sunday was called Trinity Sunday. It's one of the great mysteries of our faith! Three people in one.

Huh?!

You remember, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Here is a song and video that might help you Tallulah. Just click here.

Ok Cloë I think that is enough for today!

I think you are right Tallulah. But I do want to let everyone know about the cool new cards that Vic over at Happy Saints has come up with. You can learn the saints while you learn the alphabet!

Rules can be a good thing!

So yesterday we were bad dogs. We got so excited while chasing a squirrel that we ran across the street.

Luckily our street is not very busy, but I did hear a car honk at us.

Our master was very mad at us! She told us she did not want to see us get hit and end up in the animal hospital - or worse.

Tallulah and I discussed this while we waited for our master to come out of Mass.

We realized that dogs and kids often don't know what is best for them or what will hurt them. We figured that this was why our master has the rule of not running out onto the road.

You know what else Cloë and I realized about rules? Parents and masters make rules because they love us and want to keep us safe. If they didn't care, then they would let us do whatever we wanted.

I bet that is why God gives us the commandments and some of his other ideas for how we should live, because He loves us so much!!! And he wants us to be happy and safe.

Yup, I think you are right Cloë!

Our Day at the Vet

Yesterday our master made us go to the doctor! Because we are dogs, we go to a special doctor called a veterinarian.
(This is not actually Tallulah or our vet, but it kind of looks like the two of them.)

(We are sitting on the bench so that maybe our vet won't realize we are the patients. Maybe he will think we are the humans since benches are for the humans.)

(Oh no, I think I hear him coming!)

I did not have a good time at the vet's at all Cloë! All that poking and prodding and those needles!!

I have to agree with you Tallulah. And the worst thing is that our master seemed to be on the vet's side since she was helping to hold us down! But even though it's awful, I guess it's important so that we stay healthy. And I must say my ear, which has been bothering me, feels much better today.

Now on to happier things!

Tomorrow we want to encourage you to go to Calvary in Green Valley (4172 HWY 34 behind Ste-Marie-de-l'Assomption Parish, about 10 minutes north of Lancaster). There is an open air Mass, then the Way of Light, an Easter Egg Hunt and a picnic.

That sounds like fun Cloë, I hope they are serving hot dogs!

They are Tallulah, unfortunately we won't be there. Our master said she has too much to do and can't watch us, so we have to stay home.

Darn it, we always miss the good things Cloë. I would have loved the Easter Egg Hunt, even though I don't understand why there is an Easter Egg Hunt when Easter was more than a month ago.

As we've talked about before Tallulah, Easter is actually a season that runs for 50 days and traditionally ends with Pentecost, which is this Sunday.

Ok I remember now, but I'm still disappointed that we are not going. But I sure hope everyone else goes, I heard there are lots of neat things to find on this Easter Egg Hunt.

Well that's it for today! Woof.

Jesus Goes Home!

Does anybody remember what this past Sunday's Gospel talked about? Tallulah?

It's been a few days Cloë but I think it talked about Jesus going back to Heaven!

Very good Tallulah. The technical word for that is the Ascension.

Here is a fun song about the Ascension.

But if Jesus went back to Heaven, doesn't that mean he left all his apostles behind with no leader?!

Not at all Tallulah. Jesus made the apostles the new leaders of His Church. And He left them with a special helper that we will hear about this Sunday.

I know! I know! the helper is the Holy Spirit! The same helper all the humans have.

Wow you are really remembering a lot Tallulah, I'm very impressed!

Thank you Cloë, I've been studying.

Today is the feast day of Saint Boniface. He is an excellent example of someone who was inspired by the Apostles and who also became a great leader spreading the Good News of Jesus. Click here to look at our post from last year about Saint Boniface.

Yesterday we had a great time hanging out with the Blackadders! (I hope I spelled their name right Cloë, I am not always the best speller.)

The trick Cloë is not to take your eye off the treat! Woof!
