Two Saints

Today is the feast day of Saint Stanislaus!

Saint Stanislaus was born more than 1000 years ago in Poland. Tallulah can you find Poland on this map?

I sure can Cloë! It's the green country with the red and white square in the middle of it.

When Stanislaus grew up he became the bishop of Krakow. He often criticized the King for some of the bad things he did. The King did not like this and eventually killed Stanislaus. Today, Stanislaus is one of the patron saints of Poland.

Cloë did you notice the similarities between Stanislaus and another great saint?

Do you mean Pope John Paul II?

That is exactly who I mean.

So what are the similarities Tallulah?

Well both men were
  • born in Poland
  • became bishop of Krakow
  • were critical of their government
  • paid for that criticism - Stanislaus with his life, John Paul almost with his life
  • saints
  • patrons of Poland
That's pretty amazing! And to think they were born more than 1000 years apart.

It just goes to show Cloë how the Church is one big family even if separated by hundreds of years!

To learn more about Pope John Paul II you may want to purchase this book.

Did you know Tallulah, that almost 87% of all Poland is Catholic and that there are only 7 other countries in the world that have more Catholics!

Żegnaj - that's good-bye in Polish! Woof!
