Yesterday (July 28) I turned 3! I am feeling much more mature today. I had a good bday. In the morning we went to church with our master. Then we hung out with our master at home. But the best part was going to the pet store
where I got to pick out my own present!!!
There was just so much choice that it was hard to decide. Finally though I settled on a big giant birthday bone!
Here is me with my bone and my birthday cupcakes.
Cloë and our master sang me Happy Birthday.
And then we chowed down. Everything was deeeelicious!!!
Tallulah, in all the birthday excitement did you remember to listen at Mass?
I did Cloë. Yesterday Jesus taught his apostles the Our Father! And here is a read along video to help everyone learn this most important of prayers.
Ok so we aren't really in Brazil, but we sure wish we were, since so many exciting things are happening in Rio de Janeiro these days. As we told you the other day the World Youth Days are happening in Rio as we speak.
Even though WYD is for the big people we thought it might be interesting to know more about Brazil and about Rio.
This is the flag of Brazil.
This is the map of Brazil.
Can you find Rio de Janeiro on there?
And if you click here, you can learn much more about Brazil. There are maps and games, and you can learn about some of their national symbols.
One of the most famous statutes in the whole world is in Rio.
Today (July 26th) is another important feast day! It is the day that we remember St. Anne and St. Joachim. These are Mary's mommy and daddy.
Hey Cloë that must mean they are Jesus' grandma and grandpa!
You got it Tallulah.
(Check out more of the Happy Saints family by clicking here.)
Today would be a good day to call your grandmas and grandpas and tell them how much you love them! We certainly love our grandma!
Yesterday we talked about St. James and we forgot to tell you that we have our own St. James church in our diocese. It's in Maxville! and here is a picture of it.
That's it for today - woof!
Cloë andTallulah
P.S. Hey everybody, it's my birthday on Sunday - I'll be 3 years old! I can't wait.
Wasn't that fun today Cloë!!! I loved seeing all those kids.
Yes Tallulah it was great being able to meet the kids that our master and her friends have been working with all week.
I am just sorry we did not get there in time for snack! I hear it was really good.
Do you know why the kids made this snack Tallulah?
I do Cloë. They were learning about Evangelization today and in particular about Jesus telling James and John, two of his apostles, that He would make them fishers of men.
James' brother was John, one of the other apostles. Both men were fishermen like their father, Zebedee. One day Jesus saw them fishing and he asked them to follow him. He also told them that He would make them fishers of men. So you were absolutely right Tallulah!
Santiago de Compostela, Spain is believed to be the city where St. James is buried. Here is a picture of the Cathedral and the tomb of St. James.
Tallulah yesterday something very sad happened in Santiago de Compostela. There was a terrible train crash and many people died and were hurt.
Cloë that's terrible, we should be praying for these people and for their family and friends.
You are right Tallulah because I am sure there are a lot of sad people. We need to ask God to be with them during this very sad time. Cloëand Tallulah
There is just so much happening these days that we have not had time to blog :( plus our master/secretary has been busy with the Vacation Bible School in Apple Hill. It looks like it is lots of fun!
In case you missed this one, the Festival of Faith will be repeated in Cornwall from August 12 to August 19. Contact Johanna if you want to sign up!
Last week we told you about Baby Moses, one of the great prophets of the Old Testament.
We also told you about the time Moses spoke to God who appeared to him as a burning bush! (Well we wrote that one but for some technical reason it did not publish, but it's up there now.)
Moses' adventure continued yesterday and today. In yesterday's reading, God parted the Red Sea so that the Israelites could escape from the Egyptian army, who was after them.
In today's reading the Israelites have been led out of Egypt, but now they are in the desert with no food. So God sent them a special bread called manna that rained down from Heaven!
The other cool thing that is happening this week is World Youth Day in Brazil. This is really for the big people but it's so exciting that we wanted you to know about it. We will talk more about it tomorrow.
Hey Cloë, it sounds like the movie The Prince of Egypt would be a good one to rent on a rainy day! That way you could watch the whole story of Moses at once.
Today's Gospel was a short one but a good one! And it's a great reminder that God is always there ready to help us if we just remember to ask.
Now that is Good News Tallulah!
It sounds like it Cloë, but what exactly is a burden?
A burden is something that is heavy and difficult to carry. Sometimes it is a thing, but often it is something we feel and that makes us sad
or scared.
Maybe you are having a tough time at school.
Or maybe one of your parents has lost their job and you are worried.
Or maybe you know someone who is sick, maybe that someone is you.
All of these things Tallulah are burdens. Sometimes they are more than someone can handle by themselves. That is when you need to ask God for some help. He may not make your burden go away but He will help you carry it and make you stronger!
Knowing that makes me feel so much better Cloë! I found this prayer that kids can pray when they need help carrying their burdens.
Dear Father, I am thankful that when I struggle under the load of life's burdens, you are there to help me carry the load. This is the burden I am struggling with:
(tell God your burden), please help me carry it today.
In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
The other day we told you about our friend Alex. He is at CHEO and he has a pretty big burden to carry these days. Here is the note he sent us.
Thank you Cloë and Tallulah and everybody for your prayers.
I know that they will help. God has already done some amazing things to
help me. The people here at CHEO are all really great! I will get better,
but it will take some time before I can come back to church.
God Bless all of you
Alex
Well it's another really hot day! Thank goodness there is always a shady spot for us at church or I think we would melt.
Today we were introduced to Moses!
I know Moses, that is that giant cat!!
No Tallulah, you are thinking of CatChat's Moses, I'm talking about the prophet Moses, the guy who brought us the 10 Commandments.
His story is told in the Old Testament in the book of Exodus. Today we heard about his birth, and how his mom put him in a basket and then put him in the river. The Pharoah, who was like an Egyptian King, wanted to be sure to keep power, so he said all male Jewish babies had to be thrown into the river.
That doesn't sound very nice.
It wasn't. But Moses' mother hoped somebody good would find the baby and take care of him. And the funny thing was, that it was the Pharoah's daughter who found him and brought him home to raise him. Here is a video that tells the story.
Our last thing for the day is to ask you to say some prayers for our friend Alex. We heard today at Mass that he is quite sick. He and his mom and dad would really appreciate if you asked God to look after him.
