Advent 2014 - Day 1

Hey Cloë! I'm getting anxious, there are just 25 days to Christmas and to presents!

Woah! Slow down Tallulah! You are right about the math, but we have to take time to prepare for Christmas. We do that with the season of Advent.

Oh that's right, I forgot about Advent.

Unfortunately you are not the only one Tallulah. Shopping for presents and visiting Santa are all good,

but Christmas is about the birth of Jesus first and foremost.

I guess I should have been paying more attention to Father Kevin this morning. I think I heard him mention "waiting" a few times during his homily.

Exactly, we have to wait for Christmas. Advent is a time for us to get ready for Jesus' birthday. There are so many different ways to do this. Here are just two.

#1: Sign up for the Holy Heroes Advent Adventure

#2: Make an Advent Wreath

It's very easy. You can buy a plain wreath at the store as well as 3 purple candles and 1 pink candle. You can also decorate it with pink and purple decorations and ribbon.

Parents and grandparents, if you need more ideas for celebrating the season of Advent, Lacy over at Catholic Icing has produce a wonderful resource: The Advent Christmas Planner.

Click here to find out how to order it.

P.S. I am feeling good and yesterday the vet confirmed that I am not sick - phew and thank the Good Lord!

Seeing Jesus in Others

This past Sunday we had a special guest at our parish, Bishop Marcel.

I've been wondering why he was there Cloë.

Well Tallulah, every five years bishops must officially visit each of their parishes. This past weekend was our turn.

Now I understand. I must say he gave a very good homily.

He sure did. Can you tell everybody what he talked about.

He told us all that we must constantly see Jesus in others. If someone is sick or poor or just needs some help, that we should help them.

That's right Tallulah. Someone who was very good at this was Blessed Mother Teresa.

This is what she had to say:
“I see Jesus in every human being. I say to myself, this is hungry Jesus, I must feed him. This is sick Jesus. This one has leprosy or gangrene; I must wash him and tend to him. I serve because I love Jesus.”

Wow! Who was Mother Teresa?

She was a little tiny nun who packed a big punch! She worked in India with the very poorest of the poorest.

Today, her Missionaries of Charity continue to work not only in India but in many different countries.

What are some of the ways you can help others?

By the way, I want to thank everyone who prayed for me.
I have quite a long incision but the vet is pretty sure I'm fine. We'll know for sure on Monday. In the meantime he told me I had to take it easy for a few days.

Say a Little Prayer

Hi Everybody,

Today I have to go for a small surgery.

I have a small lump on my leg and our vet said they have to take it off and then test to make sure there is nothing wrong with me. He is very optimistic but it's still a little scary. Please say a prayer and ask St. Francis of Assisi to intercede on my behalf so that all goes well.

Thanks and I'll let you know what happens.

Take a Walk to Christmas

Our master has been so busy getting ready for Take a Walk to Christmas that she's had no time to be our secretary. We hope you can join her tomorrow! Here are the details.

These are pictures of me and Cloë helping our master get ready. Cloë is supervising and ... well I got tired watching our master work so I decided to have a nap. (That red thing is my super duck!)

And here are photos of the grade 3 and 4 students from Marie-Tanguay and Notre-Dame who visited the event yesterday.

See ya soon! Woof!

All Souls Day

Today, November 2nd, is the day we remember and pray for all those who have died.

Catholics from different countries have different traditions for commemorating this day.

In Poland nearly everybody goes to the cemeteries on All Souls Day where candles and flowers will be laid on the graves of the departed.

In Mexico, the people pray for the dead with celebrations that include colourful altars with the favourite food and drink of the deceased, all night vigils at the cemetery and special foods such as pan de muerto [bread of the dead] and miniature skulls made from sugar.

In the Philippines, families light candles and clean the graves. Then on All Souls Day families will visit the graves and there will be parties with food and music at the graves.

Here is a prayer that you can pray for someone you know who has died. And if you do not know anybody who has died then pray for those who have died and have no one to pray for them.

Let perpetual light shine upon them,
with your Saints for ever, for you are merciful.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them,
with your Saints for ever, for you are merciful.
Amen.
